Lost Pensions

Sir, - For years, women in the public service who married were sacked. These women lost pension rights and civil rights. After Ireland joined the EU, many of these women, sacked for marrying in the 1960s, got back into the workplace in the late 1970s. Now these women are facing retirement with very reduced pensions. Through no fault of their own, they do not have the 40 years' contributions necessary to draw the full pension. Surely it is time that the Government compensated these people. - Yours, etc.,
