Madam, - On Sunday I attended the marvellous celebration in the Hugh Lane Gallery to commemorate the opening 100 years ago of a public gallery dedicated to modern art. I enjoyed the wonderful exhibits of modern and contemporary art both inside and outside the gallery.

On returning to my car, I noticed to my surprise a large, yellow, triangular sculptural piece attached to my rear wheel, with description and cost on the side window. As I made my way north I asked myself: "What would Hugh Percy Lane have said about it all?". - Yours, etc,

PAUL SLEVIN, Omagh, Co Tyrone.
