Sir, – The account by Sandra Monks of her week spent with children and their parents encouraging early learning was heart-warming (My Education Week, January 15th).
How many such teachers are needed in disadvantaged areas? Thousands. Yes, it would cost money. But how much more money would become available if top management in our civil, social and other services – people who in the past might have felt some obligation to their country – didn’t self-reward with such gusto?
