Sir, - The Minister for Education, Ms Bhreathnach, refused recognition to Gaelscoil Cholmcille, Whitehall, on the grounds that the gaelscoil would have a significant adverse impact on a local school. The school in question takes approximately 120 pupils a year from its catchment area.
Only three pupils from this same catchment area are enrolled in Gaelscoil Cholmcille for the year 1996/97, as pupils come from a wide area of north Dublin. The significant adverse impact referred to amounts to 2.5 per cent of the total. Perhaps the Minister should add up her figures again.
Or better still, she should repeat her Leaving Cert Maths (Lower Level). Yours, etc.,
