Sir, Sean Mason of Geoconsult Arup J.V., writes in his letter (January 15th) about the number of boreholes drilled in Marino in relation to the Dublin Port Tunnel. The facts are that the current A6 route - through Marino - was identified and chosen in 1992 on the basis of only two boreholes between Griffith Avenue and Fairview Strand.
Subsequent drillings to determine the suitability of underground conditions for tunnelling - including the number referred to by Mr Mason - were all carried out after the A6 route was chosen as Dublin Corporation's preferred route for the DPT.
This is akin to dipping your toe into the water, after diving in! - Yours, etc.,
