Climate change amd sea level

Madam, - I live near Seapoint, Co Dublin and walk along the seafront each day

Madam, - I live near Seapoint, Co Dublin and walk along the seafront each day. The sea tide there is visibly rising due to the melting of the ice on the polar caps. If it continues to rise inch by inch unabated it will in time breach the sea boundary wall and flood the Dart and commuter railway tracks. That could be the end of the Dart and the commuter trains.

What is CIÉ doing about this? Nothing. What is the Government doing about it? Nothing. What am I doing about it? Merely raising a wake-up call for the people of this island. I am not an alarmist, but if this is happening at Seapoint, this threat surrounds our entire coastlines, north, south, east and west.

I suggest that the Government immediately set up a commission to fully examine this situation before it is too late - a commission made up of Dutch scientists (we might have to build dykes), Irish scientists and other appropriate scientists from around the world. - Yours, etc,

MICHEÁL O NUALLÁIN,
