Sir, - It is a pity that the various pretenders to Gay Byrne's throne were not given trial runs - several programmes each, that is - at presiding over the Late Late Show by way of finding a worthy and definitive successor. It is an even greater pity that a lady as accomplished as Carrie Crowley was not one of them.
