Brexit – who governs Britain?

Sir, – Ukip’s Marietta King claims that “quiet civil unrest” will result if Brexit is abandoned (“‘It’s beyond Brexit. It’s about who governs this country’”, Jennifer O’Connell, News Analysis, April 22nd).

“Civil disobedience, such as people not paying their licence fees”, Ms King elaborated.

The recent, huge pro-Remain march in London was notably good-humoured; banners included “Brexit is an Eton mess” and “Brexit is pants”.

No other nation does genteel fury and mild, polite protest quite like the British.

We’ll miss them if they do eventually, and needlessly, bow out of the EU. – Yours, etc,

Sir, – A recent survey by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy tells us that approximately a third of people in the UK are reporting a negative impact on their mental health due to Brexit.

One wonders by how much this statistic might rise were Brexit to actually happen. – Yours, etc,
