Madam, – In response to Frank O’Donoghue’s request for the unemployed to clear up the overgrown roadsides and dandelion-infested roundabouts (May 4th), could he say on which byway he spotted the overgrown insurance, cutting and safety equipment tree? – Yours, etc,

PAUL MARTIN,

Lisieux Park,

Magazine Road,

Cork.

Madam, – I was disappointed that Frank O’Donoghue failed to mention the piles of dog turds, plastic bottles, broken glass, cigarette buts and general debris and rubbish that permanently adorn the streets of Cork. But I suspect he was being kind.

There must be thousands among the unemployed who would be happy to clean up such things. All that is required surely is the political will and wit to think outside the box and kill two birds with one brush. – Yours, etc,

JOHN COONEY,

Wilton Road,

Cork.
