Sir, – Reading the Irishman’s Diary brought me quickly from astonishment to envy (Éanna Brophy, April 26th). News that the luminaries at Penguin now see fit to expurgate the writings of PG Wodehouse brought to mind an apprentice being handed a hammer and chisel and asked to have a crack at tidying up Michelangelo’s David.
As woefully misplaced as it presumably is, wouldn’t it be great to have such confidence? – Yours, etc,
