Sir, – Karl Martin agrees with Binyamin Netanyahu that the Israeli supreme court needs drastic reform (Letters, March 24th).
What Mr Martin fails to mention is that the proposed judicial overhaul gives the Israeli government more control over the supreme court while Mr Netanyahu, as prime minister, is himself under investigation for corruption. For obvious reasons, the prime minister has a vested interest in its success.
One only has to read the banners of the thousands of protesters condemning the judicial renovation on the streets of Tel Aviv, which we see daily on our television screens, to understand the disquiet among the people of Israel. – Yours, etc,
