One of a group of hackers who broke into the computer system of the World Economic Forum in January was arrested today in Berne in Switzerland, Swiss news agency ATS reported.

The agency, which quoted unnamed officials for its report, said the male hacker lived in the Swiss capital. It gave no other details and there was no immediate comment from Swiss officials.

The Geneva-based Forum, which holds an annual gathering of global business and political leaders in the Swiss mountain resort of Davos each January, reported the incident earlier this month.

They said the hackers had obtained the credit card details of many participants in this year's Forum meeting, including top bankers and politicians.

But there was no indication that the numbers had been used for operations on the cards.

This year's Forum was targeted by anti-globalisation demonstrators who declared in advance that they planned to shut it down and keep participants away - as similar protesters have tried to do at other recent international economic gatherings.
