A mother of three who took part in the robbery of a student at a city Luas stop has had her four-year sentence reduced on appeal.
The Court of Criminal Appeal yesterday found the four-year sentence with one year suspended imposed on Edel Losty (33) by Judge Patrick McCartan in March last year was “somewhat excessive”.
Losty, of South Circular Road, had pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to the robbery in the early hours of October 31st, 2006.
The court heard the former drug addict held the young woman’s arm at the Busáras Luas stop while a teenage accomplice raised her fist and demanded the victim’s purse. The pair were arrested nearby when the woman identified them to gardaí.
Presiding judge Mr Justice Donal O’Donnell said the court would reduce the sentence to one of three years, with one year suspended.
