AN AMERICAN woman accused of killing her pregnant friend is believed to have cut open her victim to take the baby and pass it off as her own.
The child also died, but it could not be determined whether he was alive when he was taken from 21-year-old Heather Snively’s womb, police said.
Korena Roberts (27), has been charged with murdering Ms Snively in Portland, Oregon.
Police called to the scene found Ms Roberts trying to revive the baby, which she said was hers.
Ms Roberts might also face charges over the baby’s death if lab tests show he ever took a breath.
“The issue is was the child alive at all at any point in time,” said Washington County District Attorney Bob Herman. “This is certainly unusual for its circumstances and nature.”
Investigators said Roberts, who has two children younger than 10, had been telling friends and relatives for months that she was pregnant and also told people she would have twins. – (AP)
