York - The official opening of a cancer unit has been delayed on police orders because of protests by supporters of animal rights hunger striker Barry Horne. Officers advised York District Hospital, to which Horne has been moved from prison, to delay Saturday's event because of fear of disruption by activists.

Horne, serving 18 years for firebombing, was yesterday on his 64th day of hunger strike in protest at the government's refusal to set up a royal commission on vivisection.
