US consumer inflation rose slightly in October despite an improvement in energy prices, while core consumer inflation also rose modestly, the Labor Department said today.
Overall consumer prices rose 0.3 per cent last month, in line with expectations and the same increase seen in September.
Core prices, which do not include volatile food and energy prices, went up 0.2 per cent in October, also in line with expectations and the fifth straight month core prices have increased by 0.2 per cent.
The three months through August have posted a 2.1 per cent seasonally adjusted annualised rate for core inflation.
Overall inflation has risen at a 1.7 per cent seasonally adjusted annualised pace over the past three months, up from 1 per cent in the prior month.
Core inflation has risen an unadjusted 2.2 per cent in the past 12 months, in line with expectations. Overall inflation has risen an unadjusted 3.5 per cent in the year through October, also matching expectations.
