London - Britain moved closer to deporting a Muslim cleric to Pakistan yesterday after winning a court case against Shafiq ur Rehman, whom it accuses of being linked to Kashmiri guerrillas.

A decision by the Home Secretary, Mr Jack Straw, to deport him was overturned last September by the Special Immigration Appeals Commission. The Appeal Court ordered the case to be sent back to the immigration commission but granted permission for an appeal to Britain's highest court, the House of Lords, for a ruling on the meaning of national security.
