TWO MEN were killed in road collisions yesterday in Limerick and Cavan. Tomasz Stelmasczczuk (31), a native of Poland, was the fifth person to die on Co Limerick roads this month.
He was killed at 2.30am when the car in which he was a front-seat passenger collided with a lorry which, having broken down, was parked on the N21.
The driver of the car, also believed to be a Polish national, was in a critical condition in hospital. The incident occurred on the Rathkeale bypass at Clough.
Both men have lived in Limerick for some time.
In Co Cavan, a 91-year-old pedestrian from Co Cavan, named as Harry Gaffney of Gallonbane Ballyjamesduff, died after he was involved in a collision with a truck.
The incident happened at 11.55am. Gardaí said Mr Gaffney was fatally injured as he crossed Granard Street in Ballyjamesduff.
He was taken by ambulance to Cavan General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.Gardaí were last night investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
A 30-year-old pregnant woman was seriously injured last night after being pinned to a wall after a vehicle collided with her car, which had broken down on a country road in Co Limerick.
The incident occurred at around 5.40pm at Baunacloka between Mount Mungret and Quinn’s Cross close to the village of Mungret, about three miles west of Limerick city.
