GARDAÍ INVESTIGATING the murder of a man who was stabbed to death in his family home have arrested two people for questioning.

The suspects, a man and a woman, were arrested at an address in Newbridge, Co Kildare, yesterday morning for questioning about the death of 21-year-old Krystian Morowski.

The victim, a Polish national, was found stabbed on the kitchen floor of his home at Moorefield Park, Newbridge, Co Kildare, at 5.30am on Tuesday.

He was given medical treatment at the scene by paramedics and taken by ambulance to Naas General Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

A postmortem concluded Mr Morowski died from a single stab wound to the heart.

The murder weapon, a kitchen knife, was found at the scene.

There were a number of people in the Moorefield Park property when the killing occurred and gardaí were initially told by some of them that Mr Morowski had stabbed himself.

However, an examination of the scene by members of the Garda Síochána Technical Bureau yielded evidence that suggested the dead man’s fatal injury was not self inflicted.

Yesterday at 9.30am a man and woman in their 40s were arrested in Newbridge.

They were detained under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act and can be detained for up to 24 hours without charge.

They were being held last night at Newbridge and Kildare town Garda stations.

Mr Morowski lived at the Newbridge property with his mother, stepfather and five-year-old brother. They had come to Ireland from Poland three years ago.

Garda sources said residents in Moorefield Park at 3.30am on Tuesday heard a row taking place in the house where the family were living in one of three flats.

Gardaí called to the property and spoke to everybody who lived there, including Mr Morowski.

The gardaí then left the property only to be called back two hours later.

When they went back they discovered Mr Morowski stabbed in the heart on the kitchen floor.

The house has been forensically examined by members of the Garda Technical Bureau for the past two days.

A number of Mr Morowski’s possessions found on a grass verge outside the house were also examined.

Gardaí are working on a definite line of inquiry.

They are examining if the row heard coming from the house just hours before the killing was in any way linked to a car being reported stolen on Monday night.

The vehicle was later found parked down the road from its owner’s house in Newbridge.
