The art of the working man

Eigse Carlow usually manages to come up with something striking in its exhibitions programme at St Patrick's College and this year it looks like being young figurative sculptor Sean Henry, whose eerily lifelike sculptures, in painted bronze or ceramic, are of men, usually working men, and commemorate a traditional, perhaps outmoded notion of masculinity. The other featured artists are Pauline Flynn, whose work was greatly influenced by her time in Japan, and Anthony Whishaw, who paints elemental landscapes.

In the group shows, Marie Hanlon, Darragh Hogan, Sharon O'Malley, Naomi Seki, Breda Flanagan and Stephen Killane are among those exhibiting. The Eigse exhibitions are open from today in St Patrick's College, College St, Carlow, and are open daily until next Sunday.
