Gardai are to prepare a file for the Director of Public Prosecutions following a series of incidents in which a teenage gang broke into a supermarket, stole a truck and used it to demolish the front wall of a supermarket. The teenagers - a 17-year-old boy, an 18-year-old woman and two girls aged 17 - first broke into Foley's supermarket in Mallow and made off with more than £100 worth of drink before stealing a lorry on the outskirts of the town.

The youth and one of the girls then proceeded to Dromahane village where at 7.50 a.m. they reversed the truck into Twomey's supermarket several times, demolishing the front wall and damaging both the till and stock.

The proprietor, Mr Jeremiah Twomey, and his daughter, Angela, were woken by the break-in attempt and raised the alarm, and the two teenagers were caught by gardai less than two miles away after the truck crashed. The two other girls were also arrested in a stolen car and all four were brought to Mallow Garda station where they were questioned in connection with the criminal damage offences before being released.
