The family killed in a road accident in Co Wexford yesterday have been named as Mr Conor Martin (18), Marshalstown, Enniscorthy, Co Wexford, Ms Emma Conroy (17), Pearse Road, Enniscorthy, and their four- month-old daughter Chloe.
All three died instantly when the car in which they were travelling collided with a truck on the N11 road just north of Enniscorthy shortly after 12.30 p.m.
The collision took place at Scarawalsh, just 300 yards from the Bunclody junction, on a straight stretch of road. The truck was travelling north towards Dublin, while the car was travelling in the Enniscorthy direction.
Emergency services were quickly on the scene. The fire brigade used cutting equipment to release the victims from their car.
They were pronounced dead at the scene. Their bodies were removed by ambulance to Wexford General Hospital, and later to Waterford General Hospital for a post-mortem.
The road was closed for a number of hours while emergency services cleared it and gardaí conducted a detailed investigation. The car was removed for technical examination.
The truck driver was taken to Wexford hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries and shock.
It is understood that both the man and his partner worked as trainee nurses. The close-knit Enniscorthy community was grief-stricken when news of the accident broke.
Concern had been expressed about the stretch of road where the accident happened at meetings of Wexford County Council.
Meanwhile. a young Cork driver died yesterday, four days after he was involved in a road traffic accident.
The man in his 20's, from Ballymacoda, East Cork, sustained severe head injuries when the car in which he was travelling hit a fence in Youghal in the early hours of Saturday morning last.
The single-vehicle accident -in which two other young men were hurt - occurred at approximately 4.30am on the Youghal to Dungarvan road.
The occupants of the car were rushed to Cork University Hospital, where the family of the young man held a vigil until his death yesterday.
Gardai in Youghal described the scene of the accident as a 'notorious stretch of road' known for accidents.
One of the three occupants remains in a serious condition in hospital. The name of the deceased will not be released until all relatives have been contacted.
