At least 15 people were killed as Tamil guerrillas launched co-ordinated attacks on army camps in eastern Sri Lanka today.

The Sri Lankan air force hit back with bombing raids against rebel positions in other parts of the east after the attack, the biggest on an army camp in more than a year.

The rebels launched three waves of attacks on the Janakapura and Kokkutudu Wai camps in the Welioya area, 150 miles east of Colombo.
