A delegation from an action committee campaigning to retain a sub post office at Mountbolus, Co Offaly, which was threatened with temporary closure, yesterday met officials of An Post.

Following a 60 minute meeting in the GPO, Dublin, An Post said the Mountbolus sub post office would remain functional for 12 months. The delegation undertook to generate additional business and greater use of the postal services.

Laois Offaly TDs Mr Ger Connolly, Mr Brian Cowen (both Fianna Fail), and Mr Pat Gallagher (Labour), and Senator Tom Enright (Fine Gael) accompanied the delegation.
