The name is Pearce II Fionda. Anyone on the look-out for glamour should note it. The dress designing duo of Ren Pearce and Andrew Fionda, who met at art school and who in four seasons have established themselves as champions of stunningly sophisticated clothes, have launched a collection in Debenhams in the Jervis Street shopping centre.
This store has demonstrated a liking for designer collections, which are modestly priced at between £40 and £300. It's so refreshing. And this latest collection is the most sumptuous to be stocked.
There are dashes of purple, touches of lavender, a few frosty greys - but the heart of the range is black.
The fabrics are laced with lycra, creating spectacular curves, which in the long evening dresses can also be low-cut; very low-cut, in fact. Among these is one in pure silk, with a choice of grape or black, with a halter neckline of body-skimming cut. Slinky, sexy, and perfect for doing the tango, it costs £180 - and it's so confidently female.
But it isn't all about night life. There are perfect little classic shift dresses (£120), shapely jackets with nipped-in waists and low necklines, sometimes alluringly edged in fur (£200), which, worn with a matching skirt, put new glamour into the suit. There are variations of the trouser - wide or narrow-legged, and an array of tops, among them camisoles (£40), ruffled taffeta blouses (£80) and, on the dressy side, silver crochet cardigans (£120). There are sumptuous fur coats (£300), and a great, swaggering Alpaca trench coat (£300), long and belted with a fur collar.
These are the clothes for someone smart with smart things to go to. They are for the sophisticate with curves. It was fun to watch; it would be huge fun to wear. The name, remember, is Pearce II Fionda.
