It also said that as of next year, Sky will be offering a news service focusing on Irish current affairs, although it did not say when or what format that news service would take.

This morning's figures show that in the five years since the launch of digital television in Ireland, Sky Digital has more than quadrupled the size of its DTH subscriber base.

In Ireland, Sky channels are currently available to over 870,000 (66 per cent of total) households via cable/MMDS (570,000 households) and Sky digital (300,000 households).
