The SARS death toll in Singapore rose to 22 today after a man (77) died just four days after his wife succumbed to the epidemic, health officials said.

The man had accompanied his wife on April 1st to the radiology center of the Singapore General Hospital, where a number of staff, patients and visitors have caught Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS).

Officials also said that the closure of the island state's main produce market will be extended to ensure all persons ordered quarantined after having worked or visited it will be well when it reopens.

About 200 SARS cases have been reported in Singapore.
