Seoul - President Kim Dae-Jung yesterday replaced his foreign, defence and unification ministers in a sweeping cabinet reshuffle to head off political and diplomatic crises.

Ten cabinet members and two other officials at ministerial level were ordered out of the government, said the presidential spokesman, Mr Park Joon-Yong.

Making his biggest changes since taking office in February 1998, President Kim replaced the Foreign Minister, Mr Lee Joung-Binn, following a series of diplomatic gaffes, including one over support for the US National Missile Defense (NMD) system.
