Dublin's Mount Carmel Hospital could be sold within two weeks after the religious order that runs it announced they had entered into exclusive discussions with Harlequin Healthcare Limited.

It was announced last year that the Little Company of Mary Sisters had decided to sell the hospital which recently completed a €15 million upgrading of its facilities, including the commissioning of a new Day Care centre.

It was reported at the time that a drop in vocations to the order meant they no longer had sufficient members to take an active interest in the hospital, which is located on the south side of Dublin.

The 150 bed private hospital was established in 1949. The new Mount Carmel Hospital with its many specialities was officially opened in 1960 and currently employs 350 people full time. A statement released today said the order hoped the discussions woud lead "to a successful conclusion within the next two weeks."
