INCREASING NUMBERS of young men and women are being raped or sexually assaulted as a result of celebrating exam results, the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre said yesterday.

According to Ellen O’Malley-Dunlop, chief executive of the centre, young people face increasing risks when celebrating, attending outdoor summer events or when they are holidaying together abroad.

The centre has published a number of “Stay Safe Tips” for young people. Among other things, it says people should key the centre’s helpline number, 1800-778888, into their phone in case of emergencies.
