British police hunting the so-called "Trophy Rapist" charged a rail worker today with the rape of nine women and girls aged between 10 and 52.

Mr Antoni Imiela (48) is due to appear before magistrates in Canterbury, Kent, in southeast England tomorrow.

"Detectives investigating a series of rapes in the southeast have this evening charged a 48-year-old man with nine offences," Detective Superintendent Mark Warwick told reporters.

Mr Imiela was arrested in Kent on Monday, following the biggest manhunt since the "Yorkshire Ripper" case 20 years ago.
