LONDON - The British Association of Chief Police Officers announced yesterday an eight per cent reduction in the total number of positive breath tests over the Christmas and New Year period in England and Wales, writes Rachel Donnelly.
Unveiling the statistics, the Chief Constable of Surrey and Chairman of the Association off Chief Police Officers Traffic Association, Mr David Williams, said that while he welcomed the fact there were 4,340 positive breath tests over the holiday period compared to 4,706 during the same period last year, "these figures were still not good enough. It must be treated with a degree of caution, given that some 22 per cent of those who returned positive tests were involved in an accident".
