A Dublin PD councillor, Mr Tom Morrissey, has said he does not know if he will accept Fine Gael's invitation to a further meeting with its committee investigating payments to councillors.

Mr Morrissey, who as a Fine Gael councillor left the party to join the PDs in 1997, said yesterday: "I will be taking legal advice on the matter. At the moment, I think it is unlikely that I will attend, given the way I was treated before."

A Fine Gael spokesman said the party would be happy to clarify matters after the meeting.

Yesterday the Sunday Business Post reported that solicitors for the group which conducted the inquiry had written to Mr Morrissey admitting that the report was "factually incorrect".

Mr Morrissey was unhappy with a reference in the report to an unsolicited donation of £2,000 he got in 1996. The inquiry, according to the report, could not come to a definitive conclusion about the payment.

Mr Morrissey had told the Flood tribunal about the donation, and told the Fine Gael committee he was bound by tribunal confidentiality.
