The nursing unions are to meet senior officials of the ICTU on Friday to discuss the implications of their threatened industrial action for the Programme for Competitiveness and Work, writes Padraig Yeates.
The invitation comes on the eve of a mass meeting for nurses in Cork tonight. This is the first of a series of such meetings by the unions to mobilise members for industrial action in pursuit of a longstanding pay claim. Two further meetings are scheduled for this week (in Galway on Wednesday night and Waterford on Thursday night).
