A pact concerning the deportation of Nigerian asylum-seekers has been criticised by a Nigerian group based in Ireland. The pact is to be ratified in Lagos on August 29th and will grant the Government leave to facilitate the deportation of Nigerians.
"We are not particularly against the deportation of failed asylum-seekers," said Mr Gabriel Okenla, president of the Union of Nigerian Citizens Resident in Ireland.
What they did not accept was the idea of what he called bribing "our government to take back its citizens". Mr Okenla said it amounted to a "pathetic and despicable" diplomatic scandal full of "intellectual anaemia".
