THE NEW Swansea Cork Ferry service which becomes operational in March has received a significant number of bookings with the six crossings. Fastnet Line has launched the booking facility for the Swansea to Cork ferry service which will begin sailing on March 1st.

The ferry service, which was axed three years ago, is set to make a comeback with the new €7.8 million Finnish vessel MV Julia, which will sail the Swansea Cork route.

West Cork Tourism began its campaign at the beginning of 2009 raise funds to get the Swansea Cork route back up and running. Finnish bank Aktia Bank and its finance company Atkia Yritysrahoitus Oy also supported the acquisition of the Juliathrough the provision of a multimillion euro mortgage.

Last month West Cork tourism boss Conor Buckley was named Cork Person of the Year for his efforts as a driving force in putting the new service in place.
