Met Éireann has issued a warning that there is a strong possibility of flooding throughout Ireland over the coming days as storms move in from the Atlantic.

A strong depression is expected to move over Ireland from the southwest tomorrow, bringing strong and gusty winds with it.

The depression will be preceded by persistent and heavy rains spreading north-eastwards across the country tonight and tomorrow.

Further rain or heavy showers will persist on Monday, giving some thundery downpours in places.

Met Éireann says up to 50 mm of rain is possible over the next few days, particularly in the south and west.

The weather during the rest of the week is expected to remain unsettled, possibly turning drier towards the tail end.

The National Safety Council is also advising all road users to take extra care on the roads, as reduced visibility, flooding and slippery road surfaces could result in hazardous driving conditions.
