Measures to improve transport services in Northern Ireland and help combat pollution were announced yesterday by the North's environment minister, Lord Dubs.

Among the plans are improvements to railway lines between Belfast and Dublin, and Belfast and Derry.

A £14 million scheme to reopen the line at Bleach Green in Whiteabbey will cut 20 minutes off the Belfast to Derry route. The Belfast-Dublin journey will be shortened by 20 minutes by upgrading to the line near Lisburn.
