Substitute Ciaran Martyn's second half goal gifted Derry City their first win of the new eircom League season and left UCD struggling at the foot of the table.
Derry, without a win in four games prior to tonight's Brandywell clash, pushed onto their opponents in the second half and UCD 'keeper Pat Jennings needed to be at his best to deny Gary Beckett.
But the home side's persistence paid off after 65 minutes when Martyn fired home. Jennings touched a Sean Friars free kick onto the crossbar but Martyn was at hand to finish off the rebound.

Paul Doolin's UCD, who were unlucky to lose at home to Waterford last week, came close to equalising in the dying minutes but the clock ticked down and the points stayed at home.
