A 34-year-old British national has been remanded in custody after being charged in connection with the seizure of 27,400 cigarettes at Dublin airport.
The cigarettes, which has an estimated retail value of €12,467 and a potential loss to the exchequer of €10,800, were discovered in the baggage of a man who had arrived on a flight to Dublin from Abu Dhabi.
He was arrested and appeared before Judge Anthony Halpin in Blnachardstown District Court this morning where he was remanded in custody to appear at Cloverhill District Court on Tuesday next.
Today's arrest was the fourth carried out by Revenue Customs officers at Dublin airport so far this year, where to date in 2012 over 2 million cigarettes and 919Kgs of tobacco have been seized with a potential loss to the exchequer of approximately €800,000.
