A man was remanded in custody in Belfast today on charges relating to the murder of former republican prisoner Frank McGreevy.

Mr McGreevy (51) was attacked at his home in west Belfast last Saturday and died from his injuries three days later.

Thomas Valliday (20), appeared before Belfast Magistrates' Court charged with the murder and six other offences, including assault occasioning actual bodily harm and unlawful wounding connected to alleged attacks on two other men near the scene of the murder.

Mr Valliday also faces three charges of criminal damage and a charge of allegedly being unlawfully at large from a young offenders' centre in south Belfast.
