The court was told Mr Jahiri, with an address at Lohunda Crescent in Clonsilla, was arrested on Sunday at Blanchardstown Garda station and, when charged, said: “That’s not true”.

Mr Jahiri, the father of Ms Finnegan’s two young children, was remanded in custody to appear again at Cloverhill District Court this Thursday.

Judge O’Donnell also directed that he was to receive appropriate medical treatment in custody.

The woman's brother was injured in the attack and is in a stable condition in hospital.
