A man (55) was today arrested by police investigating a murder carried out in 1978.
The man was arrested in Glenariff, Co Antrim, by officers from the Police Service of Northern Ireland’s Historical Enquiries Team.
The detectives are investigating the killing of Noel McKay (29) who was shot dead at his home in the Ardmore Drive area on Belfast’s Finaghy Road North.
The man arrested by police is being held at Antrim police station where he is being questioned.
Mr McKay was a Catholic postal worker killed by two gunmen thought to be republicans in what police at the time said may have been a case of mistaken identity.
The married man was gunned down by two men armed with a shotgun and a pistol who fired around 10 shots at close range.
In the aftermath of his death police said they believed Mr McKay was an innocent victim with no links to any organisation.
The book Lost Lives, which records every death from the Northern Ireland Troubles, said although republicans were blamed for killing Mr McKay, the IRA denied responsibility.
