Washington - A letter possibly containing anthrax was sent to a second US Senator, the FBI has said.

The letter, sent to Sen Patrick Leahy, chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, was postmarked Trenton, New Jersey, and dated October 9th, the FBI said in a statement, last night.

The letter was discovered in mail quarantined since an anthrax-laced letter was discovered in the Washington office of Sen Tom Daschle.

ABC television reported that the letter to Leahy contained the same distinctive handwriting present on the letter to Sen Daschle, the same date and the same return address. The letter was not fully opened, but powdery anthrax spores had poured out of it. Two postal workers died after handling the two letters at the Trenton postal facility.
