Judgment has been reserved in the High Court action by a Limerick widow against a health board and GP arising out of the death of her husband.

Ms Carmel Collins (42), of Glenamaar Avenue, Woodview Park, Limerick, brought a claim for damages against the Mid Western Health Board and Dr Ray O'Connell, of Kilbranish Drive, Woodview Park, Limerick.

Her husband, James, then aged 42, died on March 29th, 1991, following a brain haemorrhage. He was brought to Limerick Regional Hospital on March 22nd, 1991, where a lumbar puncture was performed before he was transferred to the neurosurgical unit in Cork Regional Hospital.

The court was told Mr Collins had been suffering from headaches for five weeks prior to his death. He had been diagnosed as having viral flu. The board and Dr O'Connell denied Ms Collins's claims.
