Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole was banned for two matches and fined £15,000 today following his role in a fracas as a West Ham United player in April.

Cole was suspended for two games, starting from December 22nd, and fined £10,000 for improper conduct and using abusive and insulting language to a match official during West Ham's premier league game at Bolton Wanderers.

The 22-year-old, who joined Chelsea in the close season after West Ham were relegated, was also fined £5,000 pounds for improper conduct in a mass confrontation on the pitch.

Cole, now an England regular, was also warned about his future conduct.

The game at the Reebok Stadium on April 19th boiled over just before and again just after the final whistle as West Ham's Ian Pearce was sent off.

Chelsea, meanwhile, will play their final Champions League group match with Besiktas at the Arena AufSchalke in Gelsenkirchen, home of Bundesliga side Schalke, on December 9th.

UEFA decided to move matches from Turkey to neutral venues following the bomb attacks which took place in Istanbul in November.
