"The ceasefire is in a very deep crisis and we have to do everything to save it because halting the ceasefire means more victims and more blood on both sides," Mr Peres told Israeli parliament's Foreign Affairs and Defence Committee.

Fifteen Palestinians and nine Israelis have been killed since the truce went into effect on June 13th, and violence has worsened in the past few days.

Israeli Prime Minister Mr Ariel Sharon's inner cabinet decided today to stick to the ceasefire plan but also resolved to continue a policy of pinpoint killings of Palestinian militants who Israel says threaten Israeli lives.
