The Irish Open will seek a new sponsor after Murphy’s Irish Stout today announced they will end their eight year relationship with the national Championship after this year’s event.
"We are extremely pleased to have surpassed the objectives on which we focused since becoming title sponsor in 1994," explained Padraic Liston, Managing Director, Heineken Ireland who felt it was time to change their marketing strategy.
"It has been a wonderful association of mutual benefit and I look forward to extending a warm welcome to a new and worthy successor."
The Cork-based brewers will bow out after Fota Island, also in Cork, hosts the Championship for its second consecutive year from June 27th-30th.
Murray Consultants, who co-ordinates the Championship on behalf of Murphy’s in conjunction with the European Tour, said they are well advanced in securing a new title sponsor. No announcement has been made as yet.
"We will be working closely with Murray Consultants and our many associates to finalise the new sponsorship arrangements," explained Ken Schofield, Executive Director of the European Tour.
