An Irish pro-Palestinian activist is still being held in an Israeli detention centre following his arrest in the West Bank yesterday.

Mr Salah Afifi (25), an architect from Ranelagh in Dublin, was detained with eight other foreigners while protesting with a delegation of Palestinian civilians in Huwara, south of Nablus. They are being held at Ramle Detention Centre and are said to be facing deportation.

Mr Afifi Salah has been in the area for the past two weeks as a volunteer with International Solidarity Movement (ISM), a non-violent direct action campaign against the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories.

The ISM are planning a vigil outside the Israeli embassy in Dublin in protest at the arrest.
