A 47-year-old woman has been shot in the legs in Co Antrim. She was hit while trying to flee from two masked men who had forced their way into a house in Newtownabbey. It is believed one of the masked men was carrying a handgun.

A 47-year-old woman has been shot in both of her legs in Co Antrim.

She was hit while trying to flee from two masked men who had forced their way into a house in Newtownabbey. It is believed one of the masked men was carrying a handgun.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland said the attack happened in the Ballyronan Park area at about 7.45pm on Sunday.

The woman, who was shot outside the house, was taken to hospital for treatment but her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

A 40-year-old man who was also in the property at the time suffered minor injuries to his legs and chin after being assaulted at the scene. Another man escaped uninjured.

PSNI Detective Inspector David Skelly appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
